Dutch online retailer Bol.com is a fast-growing platform that is often overlooked by e-commerce sellers. In 2018, the sales of third-party sellers on the platform increased by 55% year-on-year, which is enough to see the ambition of the old online retailer to move toward the platform model.
Bol.com holding company Ahold Delhaize revealed in its 2018 full year and Q4 results, including third parties through its Plaza platform (Bol.com's online shopping platform in the Netherlands and Belgium, allowing foreign sellers to sell products through the Bol.com platform) Sales, Bol.com continued to maintain strong sales growth over the past year, with net online sales of 2.1 billion euros. Although Bol.com's retail business is still larger than the platform business, its sales from third-party sellers are growing rapidly and are expected to be flat with its retail business in a few years.
